Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
SquareFoot Planner is a free, browser-based garden planner with no login. This policy explains, in plain terms, what happens to your information when you use it. The short version: the planner needs no account, your garden plans stay on your own device, and the only personal data we hold is the email address of anyone who chooses to join the email list.
No accounts
There is nothing to register for. You never give us a name, email, or password to use the planner, so there is no account database and no personal profile of you on our side.
Your garden plans stay in your browser
When you build a layout, the tool saves it using localStorage - a small storage area that lives inside your own web browser, on your own device. Your plans arenever sent to a server and we cannot see them. Because the data is local to your browser, clearing your browser storage, using a different device, or switching browsers will start you with a fresh, empty planner. If you want to keep a layout, use the planner's share link or print it.
The email list (optional)
A few pages offer an email sign-up. What it promises is exactly this: One email in late winter with your sowing dates for your last-frost date, plus a note when the 2027 planner pack is ready. No spam, unsubscribe any time. Nothing is sent until that late-winter email, and we will not use your address for anything else.
What we store when you sign up:
- your email address;
- your ZIP code, only if you type one in;
- your last spring frost date as a month and day, only if you set one in the planner on the same page;
- the wording you agreed to (version 2026-10-14.1) and when you signed up or changed your details;
- which page and which form you signed up from.
We do not store your name or your IP address with it. To stop automated sign-ups we keep a scrambled, one-way code made from your IP address for up to two hours; it cannot be turned back into the address and is never linked to your email.
Where it is kept: in Cloudflare Workers KV, a storage service run by Cloudflare, Inc., the company that already hosts this website. It is not shared with or sold to anyone, and no email-marketing company holds a copy.
How long: until you leave the list. Leaving deletes your record completely - it is removed, not just marked.
How to leave or delete your data: every email will carry a personal unsubscribe link that removes your address in one click. Before or after any email, you can also write to hello@squarefootplanner.comfrom the address you signed up with, and we will delete it by hand. We ask for one of these two because both prove the address is yours - nobody else can remove or change your entry, and signing up again never reveals whether an address is already on the list.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to understand basic, aggregated traffic (how many people visit, which pages, roughly where from). This uses cookies and collects usage data such as your approximate location, device, and browser. It does not tell us who you are. When someone joins the email list, Google Analytics also records that a sign-up happened and which form it came from - never the email address.
Ads (may be added later)
The site does not show ads at the time this policy was last updated. If we addGoogle AdSense to keep the tool free, AdSense may use cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your prior activity, per Google's settings.
Both are Google services, and your data through them is handled under Google's own policies: the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can manage or opt out of personalized ads at Google My Ad Center, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, including the email addresses on the list. Data gathered by the Google services above is governed by Google's policies, not shared or sold by us.
Children
This is a general-audience gardening tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
